Now since Twilight and vampires are the theme here this week, but the Twilight series maybe a touch, errr… inappropriate for the younger kids, how about we give them some fun alternatives?
My boys love to read and they THINK they like scary stuff…but when it comes to bedtime, scary books don’t do either of us any favors.
Here’s one that has a similar feel to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and was recommended by a friend. The book is called Notes From a Totally Lame Vampire : Because the Undead have Feelings Too! The lead character’s name is Nigel Mullet, which made me giggle.
It says it’s for the 6-9 set…
Also featuring Nigel Mullet is Prince of Dorkiness. My boys really want this one!
Now for the girl’s, there is a cute series called My Sister the Vampire. It’s a mash-up of twin adventures and vampires too! Very cute, meant for girls 3rd grade and up.
This one I saw for the first time sold at my kid’s book fair at their school. My kid’s were drawn to the silly aspect of it, and come to find out there is a whole series of “Weenie” books.
It’s called Attack of the Vampire Weenies, and is actually a book of short stories that are a mix of funny and creepy. This one is definitely for ages 8 and up.
Now for the even younger kids here is Little Vampire, which is a sweet tale about a Vampire boy who goes to school and wants to make friends, but all the kids are human! When he finds a friend named Michael they have some fun adventures together!
Hope this has given you some fun ideas for your little ones!
Do your kids have a favorite “spooky” book?
