Newspaper Transfer Nail Art

Pinterest might be the death of me.

All day long I sit and browse.

At food.

At purses.

At crafts.

At nails.

I can blame pinterest for about 90% of my most recent purchases, ranging from colored pants to glittery nail polish.

It needs to end.

But first I want to share with you something that I recently pinned and fell in love with.  And it’s cheap.  No purchase necessary.  You’re welcome husband.

Newspaper transfer nail art.

Here’s what you need:

  • Light-ish opaque nail color
  • Clear top coat
  • Vodka
  • Newspaper scraps

First paint your nails with a light color.  The newspaper will show up best if the color is opaque.  I used OPI Mod About You.  It’s a light, opaque pink.  Don’t apply your top coat yet.

They need to be completely dry.  If they are still tacky you will have a mess, so be patient and let them dry.

Cut 10 small squares of newspaper out.  Large enough to cover your nail.

Pour some vodka into a small bowl…

Dip your first nail into the vodka.  You don’t have to soak it, just make sure your nail is completely wet…

Immediately press on your newspaper scrap and press firmly all over your nail…

Peel off the newspaper and do a happy dance because it worked!

Repeat the process on all nails.

When you have finished lightly brush a clear top coat over the newspaper transfer to seal the print on, otherwise the newspaper ink will just wipe off.

That’s it!  Really couldn’t be any easier.

As a bibliophile I love this. But I have a question. Does it have to be vodka? We’re not drinkers, and so don’t have vodka in the house and it’s kinda expensive to buy just for nails. Would it work with rubbing alcohol?

I have done this and always get so many compliments in it. You can also do it with colorful scrapbook paper.

What Joycelyn said! You can use any scrapbook paper, too.. and think of all the possibilities with all the holidays and colors of scrapbook paper…many of which you can google and find free online. Matter of fact, there’s a pin to that as well lol.. look for Scrapbook Paper Nails, it will lead to a hybrid project pin by thehybridchick.

I have also done this before, and rubbing alcohol and scrapbook paper work just fine! It turned out really cute! I have even used designs that I printed off on my color laser printer!

What a neat idea – you could do individual words or maybe initials. Oh my, the ideas are just swimming around in my head. Can’t wait to try.
