Okay, so listen.
This thing I am about to show you…barely qualifies as crafty, it’s so easy. But–I have found that the most awesome DIY projects are the ones that up your cute factor with very little effort, so here we are.
I’ve been seeing cute ponytail holder ideas floating around on Pinterest, but they all involve looping a hair band through a button.
My ponytail holders are too thick to fit through a buttonhole, though. So if you’re in the same boat as me, and love to get your ponytail on, here’s a quick and easy trick:
You’ll need a decorative button (you can find them with the sewing supplies at any craft store or Supercenter) and your favorite ponytail holders. I like these Slide Proof ones by Goody because they stay put. Nothin’ worse than a loose ponytail.
See the loop on the back of the buttons? It’s not big enough to pull the whole ponytail holder through.
So, I snipped my ponytail holder with a pair of scissors and slid it through the loop. Then I tied the ends back together as tightly as possible. The ends hanging out of the knot were a little longer than I wanted, so I trimmed them.
I then pulled the elastic so that the knot was inside the button loop. This kept the button in place on the elastic, so it wasn’t sliding around while I looped it around my hair.
Really simple, really fun way to add a bit of bling to your hair without being over the top.
