I love thriller/mystery books but it seems like it gets harder and harder to find ones that really grab me and stand out. I used to read a lot of John Grisham and James Patterson, and although they both write excellent books, after you read a bunch of them they seem to run together.
I came across Defending Jacob while browsing on my E Reader and decided to download the sample. The story about a boy accused of brutally murdering a classmate, and it’s effect on his Prosecuting Attorney father and his family grabbed me immediately. It has the courtroom drama, along with tons of plots twists, as well as a very personal element.
The book starts at the end and kind of works it way through the story, leaving you constantly wondering. The horror of Jacob’s parents having to face the possibility that the son they loved and raised is actually a cold blooded killer was chilling, but also really sad. And the ending is a total shocker.
Definitely give this book a go. It’s an easy read and will keep you up at night!!

Thanks for the recommendation! I just checked and my library has this~totally picking it up at lunch
Have you read any by J. A. Konrath? I love his Det. Jack Daniels series.
I just found your site from Backingdom and I too have just finished Hunger Games. So I’m definitely going to give Defending Jacob a whack! Thanks.
I will put this one on my list, I’m always on the look out for good books and I love a surprise ending. I just started The House at Tyneford, so far I’m really liking it.
You’ve never steered me wrong on a book, my lovely daughter-in-law! Sounds great and I believe I will give it a go.
Have you read anything by Harlan Coben? Definitely try him if you haven’t. From what you have said here, I think he’s exactly what you’re looking for!
Read this one! I really enjoyed it until I felt like it started dragging, too much detail in some of the courtroom scenes. I just wanted to know what really happened! And the ending was a huge shocker, but I felt he could have gone into more detail at the very end. How did the dad feelafterwards? It made me think a lot too, about what I would do as a parent. Now I’m reading gone girl!
