June Reading List!!

Jon David is out of school, so Summer is officially here at my house.  I have always been an avid reader, but I find that I read a bit more during the Summer.  I usually keep a book or my e-reader on hand for the pool, the park bench, or vacations (I’m one of those people who CAN read in the car, thankfully…a few years ago I read the entire Pretty Little Liars series on the way to California), so I fly through books way more quickly than I do once school starts.

I have a few books on my list for June, and I thought it might be fun to read them together.  I will share my reviews as I read them and I’d love for you to leave your own comments if you read along!!

On the list for this month:

I’ve never read anything by Gillian Flynn, but Gone Girl was recommended in my Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago.  I looked it up on Amazon and the reviews are really really good!!  This book is a thriller about a wife who goes missing and her husband is suspected of her murder.  Lot’s of suspense and plot twists are promised.  I’m a huge fan of murder mysteries, so I’m really excited about this one!!

I decided to add The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb to the list on the recommendation of my friend Kristen, who listened to the audiobook and loved it.  Although the story is fiction, it is written as an autobiography based on an actual person.  Again, the Amazon reviews are great, and I have high hopes!!

It’s just not Summer without a new book by Elin Hilderbrand.  Her books are nothing life changing, but they are great beachy reads with substance.  I’m a huge fan of hers and never hesitate to pick up one of her new books  Summerland is about a graduation night that ends with one teenager dead and another in a coma.  As their friends and family try to cope, there are questions about the events that transpired before the tragic car accident.  This book will be released near the end of the month.

If you’re planning on reading along, I will be reading these in the order posted, starting this week.  I’ll have a new list up in July.  With that being said, I’d love recommendations if you have any!!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!!

I’m JUST getting around to reading the Divergent trilogy; it’s been great!! Thanks so much for the new recommendations! And since you asked, I highly recommend reading the Chaos Walking trilogy; it’s another young adult fiction series about a post-apocolyptic world, good vs evil story.

I read an advance copy of Gone Girl and really liked it! If you do like it and haven’t read it yet, try Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. It gives me chills thinking about it!

Are you going to add the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trilogy to your reading list? Would love to hear your review on those!!

I read Defending Jacob back in April and just loved it! I am in for all of them. It’s “Kristan’s Book Club”, way better than Oprah!!!

I second you should add the Divergent/Insurgent books to your list if you haven’t read them yet. Fantastic for those of us going through Hunger Games withdrawal. Emily Giffin is always a great beach read, her new one comes out this summer too. And even though its young adult, Sarah Dessen is my FAVORITE author, I would follow her anywhere and you will totally crush on every boy she creates (in a non-creepy mom/cougar way!)

Yes!! I’ve read Divergent/Insurgent and also reviewed Divergent. So SO good…can’t wait for the third!!!

I actually think the books are better than *gasp* The Hunger Games I read them with a week, but really want to find out what happens next. I agree Sarah Dessen is great honestly my favourite books are: What Happened to Goodbye (the latest one she wrote), Lock and Key and Just Listen. Bumped by Megan McCafferty is good but its about young teenagers falling pregnant as a virus makes all people over 18 infertile so maybe not a good book to read while pregnant. Girl Parts by John M. Cusick is good. But my favourite distopian style novel series is The Declaration by Gemma Malley its a trilogy (the next two books are The Resistance and The Legacy) and they are soooo good!!! My Mum and I love them though its really scary as you could see what is happening in the book happen in a hundred years or so. I also LOVE Shannon Hale her books are fantasy and mindless but in a good way. If you want a girly chick lit mystery series Size 12 is Not Fat (and Size 14 isn’t Fat Either and Big Boned the next two in the series) by Meg Cabot are great you will LOVE them, it is everything you believe in (food, coffee, make up ect).

Too many fun books! My list is sooo long but I’ll add these. I love the cover of the Tom Thumb book.

You HAVE to read The Book Thief if you haven’t already! It’s AMAZING!!! I also just finished all three Fifty Shades books and I have to admit, the plot line (minus the X-rated bits) is actually pretty good.

If you love Real Housewives, read “Most Talkative,” Andy Cohen’s memoir. He is hilarious, and he gives fantastic behind the scenes info on the shows! I couldn’t put it down and walked through court at work reading it with tears streaming down my face because I couldn’t stop laughing and couldn’t put it down.

Same with Jeneration X by Jen Lancaster. The second chapter on what she does instead of going to bed will make you snort uncontrollably.
