Matte Nail Design

So I’ve been meaning to do this post for about 10 months.

I’m not exaggerating.

I bought this Essie, Matte About You ages ago…

I’ve tried it a time or two. I’m not really sure how I feel about an entirely matte nail. It’s not my favorite look.

I feel like it kinda looks like an old manicure.

But what I do kinda love it using the matte look as part of a nail design.

That way it looks a little more deliberate.

So let’s start.

This nail design really couldn’t be any easier…

And what I love about it, is that it’s subtle enough to wear everyday…to your office…and still look profesh.

Not that fancy nail art isn’t cute, but I understand there is a time and place for zebra nails.

Pick your favorite nail color.

What I used was Sally Hansen Commander in Chic.

I did a base coat and two layers of the color.

Let it dry completely. COMPLETELY.

If it’s not totally dry, the tape is going to reek havoc on your mani.

When it’s dry, use some scotch tape and press it firmly on your nail. I did mine on the diagonal.

Then paint a light coat of your Matte About You on the exposed part of the nail.

Let it dry for a few minutes and then peel the tape off.

That’s it!

Now don’t do and put a top coat on. I mean…

Ooo…I like that on the diagonal! Very chic!

I like the way you used this matte polish here! And I agree, it sounded cool and look neat in photos I saw, but in person, it is very blah! Overall, I was not impressed with it. The matte look seems to fade for me after a 2-3 days of wear and my polish seems to chip more quickly and easily.

An important part of using scotch tape in manicures is to stick it to the back of your hand first, so it’s not massively sticky when you put it on your nail. MUCH less chance of it pulling up polish with it when you take it off (:

Have you tried matte over a glitter polish, it gives a cool effect. I agree an entire manicure of matte can just look like an old mani.
