This Week in Pop Culture…10/25/2012

I am addicted to Celebrity magazines.

I mean, US Weekly, People…it’s a sickness.

I don’t go low with In Touch or Star…strictly high brow tabloids.  I have standards, people.

So Kristan and I thought we would open the discussion here regarding anything and everything Pop Culture…

This week we had some doozies.

Let’s discuss the Brad Pitt commercial.  I think we can all agree that Brad Pitt has officially dove to new levels of low.  I mean, not that she cares..but if she still does a little bit…you KNOW Jennifer Aniston is LOVING being her this week.  Dodging a douche-bullet is pretty much a life win.

Next up the biggest story in my world this week…

Justin Timberlake got married.  Here’s the cover of the latest issue of People magazine…

Apparently there was controversy regarding Jessica’s dress…

Well, no one asked me but I love it.  It looks totally gorgeous and she has never looked prettier.  Love how People put Britney on the cover too…coincidence?  I think not.

Some more  good news this week is apparently Adele has had her little one…

She had a boy with her boyfriend, Simon Konecki who she has been dating since summer, 2011.

I don’t think the name has been released yet but I bet that baby is in for some sweet lullabies.

Speaking of babies, it seems that Leah Messner, 20, of Teen Mom fame is pregnant again.  She already has 2 year old twins, and on the season premier of Teen Mom 2 (set to premiere Nov. 12 on MTV) she breaks the news to her kids.  Leah is now married, and doesn’t really qualify as a Teen Mom…but seriously…sigh.

And for all you Dancing With The Stars watchers out there… Poor, poor Carrie Ann Inaba.

She totally fell out of her chair this week when praising Gilles Marini and Peeta Murgatroyd’s Rumba.  I may have rewound her fall about 14 times and re-watched.  It was hilarious.

I feel like I can laugh at this, because I have been known to fall off chairs, beds, couches..what have you, in moments of excitement.  Luckily she wasn’t hurt…There’s nothing worse than a good fall ending in injury.  Pretty much takes all the joy out of it.  It’s best when left with awkward embarrassment.  Really, what’s better?

On a sad note, let’s discuss the breaking news of Jessica Simpson’s parent’s divorce announcement.

So apparently Tina Simpson quietly filed divorce papers about a month ago…

Of course reports are  coming out now questioning Joe’s sexuality…

But honestly I don’t really think that was the case.  I think she finally just got as creeped out as the rest of us have been for the past 10 years.

Moving forward some new movies coming out this weekend are:

Cloud Atlas, starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon.  I have seen the previews for this one and have NO IDEA what it is actually about.  I sort of hate movies that are purposefully vague.  I want to know what I am getting. Rated R

The synopsis according to Movie Insider is : Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time.

A more family friendly movie out is Chasing Mavericks starring Gerard Butler and Elisabeth Shue.  This is a surfing movie and Gerard Butler looks hot.  My boys really want to see this one! Rated PG

The synopsis according to Movie Insider is: he inspirational true story of real life surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (played by newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15 year old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to accomplish the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms both their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about far more than surfing.

Fun Size also comes out this weekend, and it looks like it is in the vein of toned down American Pie-type.  It’s a teen comedy, which means I will like it :)  Starring Chelsea Handler, Victoria Justice, Thomas Mann and Jane Levy.  Rated PG-13.

The synopsis according to Movie Insider: A teen comedy centered on a sarcastic high school senior, Wren (Victoria Justice), who is eager to distance herself from her dysfunctional family by going off to college. Before that can happen, Wren’s mother, Joy, insists that she watch her little brother Albert on Halloween night, so Joy can go to a rager with her much younger boyfriend. When Wren gets distracted by an invitation to the party of the year, Albert disappears into a sea of trick-or-treaters. Frantic to locate him before their mother discovers he’s missing, Wren enlists the help of her sassy best friend April, as well as Peng, an aspiring ladies man and co-captain of the debate team, and Peng’s best friend, Roosevelt, a sweet nerd whose crush on Wren clouds his better judgment. This unlikely foursome embarks on a high-stakes, all-night adventure to find Albert, crossing paths with outrageous characters every step of the way.

Also, a few movies we can recommend if you haven’t already seen them are Hotel Transylvania….which is a really cute animated movie starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Selena Gomez.  A lot of my friends have asked if it is “scary” to which I can say no…the whole premise of the movie is that the “monsters” are scared of humans.  It’s really cute and both my kids and I enjoyed it!

And Here Comes the Boom starring Kevin James, Henry Winkler and Salma Hayek.

Kristan went and saw this one and she said it was hilarious!  My kids (and husband) really want to see this one.

And in breaking BREAKING news, it seems as if Taylor Swift and her Kennedy man/boy have called it quits.  Wasn’t she buying a house in Hyannisport?

According to US Weekly, they quietly split a while ago, with “distance” being the culprit.

Man she has the WORST luck…

or maybe it’s her?

Either way, I think she will be fine…more songs to write.

Have a great weekend!

I think it wasn’t nice of People to put Britney on the same cover with Justin and Jessica..way to ruin Jessica’s big wedding cover!

Don’t care for Brad Pitt and the Chanel commercials.
Thought Carrie Ann recovered very nicely from the tumble out of her chair…….it was one of those moments…you have to laugh……it can’t be helped!! LOL

I’m right there with you, addicted! I’ve had a subscription to Us Weekly ever since my hubby got me hooked in 2007 when I was in the hospital for a week with pancreatitis. I am a hater of pink ANYTHING, but especially wedding dresses. The dress itself is very pretty, but I think it would look nicer in white, I’m just traditional that way. Very bad taste & rude on People mag’s part to put Britney on the cover also. Brad Pitt is a douche, I’m totally team Aniston!

I loved this!! I love my gossip magazines. Jessica Biel’s dress is GORGEOUS. And I’d really like to see Chasing Mavericks, too. I have adored Elizabeth Shue since Adventures in Babysitting… where has she been?!!

When my 9 y/o daughter saw the Brad Pitt commercial, she said, “Hey, isn’t that Miley Cyrus’ Dad??” So sad that it’s come to that…. I, too, watched the Carrie Ann fall a few times. It was hilarious! The only thing I didn’t get though was right before she fell, her comment about their dance was, “Let the baby-making begin!” Huh??… Also, this week- “Magic Mike” was released on DVD!!! I have not seen it yet, but I’m pretty sure it will be a major Oscar contender! ;)

Agree 100% with everything… douche dodging, dress loving, chair falling, Swift sympathizing. And I, too, have an obsession with gossip mags – only the highbrow ones like you! So I really hope you keep this feature up every week. Especially as the costumes get skimpier and skimpier on DWTS and the next season of the Bachelor is just 3 short months away!!!
