Hey Yo!
Does today really even count as Friday?
Because it kinda feels like a Wednesday.
But I’m not gonna argue with the calendar, especially when it works to my benefit.
We are in our first official week of 2013…
And in New Jersey it’s pretty stinking cold out.
So what I am going to do is have a drink and pretend I am on a beach in Mexico somewhere…
Which brings me to The Paloma.
It’s a drink that’s pretty standard in Mexico…so let’s think beyond the margarita, ladies and get authentic.
It’s a simple cocktail that’s so yummy. It starts with tequila…but save your icky Cuervo Gold for your college friends. You’ll need a decent Blanco for this one.
Click here for a list of Blanco or Silver Tequila at every price point.
The Paloma
- 2 oz blanco tequila
- 6 oz Grapefruit soda, or I like Fresca in these too
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- salt for rimming (optional)
- Rim glass with salt, if desired.
- Fill glass with ice, tequila and lime juice. Top with grapefruit soda.
- Garnish with a lime wedge or even a maraschino cherry.

This has been my favorite mixed drink since we went to Mexico over 10 years ago. Not as sour and more refreshing than a margarita! Glad you put this on here !
I could use a little sunshine in a glass right about now! That looks perfect!
Ooo… That’s so pretty… And sounds delicious!
Just found you on Pinterest and became a I follow because I love your blog!! The recipes all loos so delicious and I can’t want to eat them all up. I Especially love this idea because Paloma’s are my new favorite drink (and also my new go-to “margarita” at a Taqueria. We made our own version this recipe, but they are called Vanilla Bean Paloma’s. They have ruby red grapefruit juice (and zest), lime juice, homemade vanilla bean simple syrup, mixed citrus sea salt (for rimming), tequila blanco, and grapefruit soda! They are addicting, we’ll drink the whole dang pitcher! Can’t wait to try your recipes as I’m sure that it will be just as (if not more enjoynable). Thanks for the inspirations and here’s the think to my post about the paloma on my blog….
