This Week in Pop Culture… 2/14

Happy Valentine’s Day, chickies!!

For your Valentine’s gift, I was hoping to present you with lots of good Hollywood gossip, but alas…people decided to stay semi normal this week.

A few things of note did happen though, and we have the Grammy’s to discuss, so there’s always that.

Let’s review:

Steve Martin is a dad!!

It has just come out that Steve Martin became a first time dad back in December.  He is 67.  I’m not really sure how I feel about this.  I mean…I am doing the math, and the odds of him being a soccer coach for a gang of 3rd graders is pretty slim.

The baby’s gender and name have not been released.

Kate Middleton Bikini Photos Published in Magazine

Chi Magazine, the same tabloid that posted nude photos of the Duchess in Cambridge on her honeymoon, has again published photos of her…this time in a bikini, rocking the baby bump.  No other magazine has or will publish the photos, and the Royal Family is said to be extremely displeased with Chi.

Tierra is engaged

Tierra LiCausi, the Bachelor contestant we ALLLLL love to hate, is apparently engaged.  Apparently it’s an off and on boyfriend who she broke up with right before going on The Bachelor.  No word on the fiance’s name yet, but her brother has revealed that his family owns a very lucrative business in Las Vegas.  I have an idea of what his name is…I think it’s SUCKER!!

Olympic runner arrested for murder

This news is just in this morning — South African Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius, who was known for being a double amputee, has been arrested for his girlfriend’s murder.  No word yet on a motive.

And now for Grammy news…

Rhianna and Chris Brown made their first very public appearance since getting back together.  Apparently her former BFF Katy Perry doesn’t approve, and avoided the couple.  Can’t say that I blame her (although she IS dating John Mayer, gross).

Let’s talk about the clothes!!  My favorites of the night were:

Katy Perry

This dress definitely isn’t worthy of a super formal event like the Oscars, but I thought it was the perfect combination of formal and fun for the Grammy’s.  I also loved the color…it really stood out.

Taylor Swift

Again, this dress is such a great combination of fun and formal, and is risque and young without being sleazy.  I thought her hair was perfect too.  Love it!!

It seems like Beyonce always shows up to these events in something formfitting, semi-sheer, and full of sparkle, so I was happy to see her change things up a bit.  This outfit is classy, but still shows off her body and sense of style.  She looks like a hot mom, instead of a kid!

Today in theaters:

Safe Haven

I haven’t seen the last few Nicholas Sparks movies (or read his last few books).  Ever since the first few of his, I just rent the movies.  I’m still waiting for a Notebook sequel.  I’ll probably rent this one, but it would make a good Valentine’s date night movie, for those of you going out!!

The synopsis, according to Movie Insider:

When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.

Safe Haven is rated PG-13 for threatening behavior, violence, and sexuality.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Grammy fashion this week!!

    Jennifer says:

I thought Rihanna wore the most beautiful dress of the night, although everyone could see her nipples. It’s just unfortunate she chose such an ugly accessory as Chris Brown. My second favorite was Katy Perry and third was Taylor Swift. I didn’t really dig Beyonce’s outfit, but then I’m not a big fan of hers anyway.
