I don’t know about you, but about a year and a half ago, I jumped on the Birchbox bandwagon.
A box of fun beauty samples every month? How fun!!
It was only $10, and for awhile I really enjoyed it.
Until I realized that the samples slowly become kind of bleh…and I had a drawer FULL of them.
It was kind of hard to decide what to do with samples. Trial sized shampoos rarely made it to my shower, and I was amassing a collection that rivaled an episode of Hoarders: Trial Size Edition (okay, that show doesn’t really exist).
I finally cancelled my subscription a few months ago and decided to try a different service I’d been hearing about — Glossybox.
What is different about Glossybox?
Well. It’s more expensive, for starters. $21 a month, so basically double the price.
However — you get five large, luxury samples a month. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get five larger products I might actually USE for $21, than a box full of tiny samples for $10. I decided to give it a try and see how I liked it.
I decided to wait until I had two month’s worth until reviewing, so you’d have a better idea of what you can expect.
The first box had a cute Guess make up bag, as well as a coupon for 30% off the Guess site. Depending on what you bought, that alone would probably be worth the $21.
I also got:
Novex Brazilian Keratin Hair Cream — this stuff is on Amazon and the reviews are pretty good. This says “sample sized”, but I can see this lasting a long time, especially since you only need a tiny bit.
A little white bottle of Pandora’s Polish. This is a smaller bottle, but not tiny. You would definitely get several uses out of this.
Sue Devitt Triple Seaweed Pressed Powder — this is a full sized compact. It’s translucent, so it’s good for almost any skin type, and I saw it for sale on Macy’s website for $15.75 (on sale from $28!!). The reviews are excellent.
Anatomicals Spray Misty for Me — this stuff contains lavender and witch hazel and is meant to be a face and skin “refresher”. It has a nice smell, and a bottle of this same size retails for around $10.
That was it for that box — all in all, I’d say it was worth the $20.
I really liked my next box!! Lots of good stuff.
First up is this Nioxin Diamax. The reviews on this stuff are GREAT!! And on Ulta.com, a bottle THE SAME SIZE sells for FIFTY BUCKS.
There was also an eyelash curler, which is great because I’ve been meaning to buy one for awhile now. It came with several extra pads, which I loved!!
Be a Bombshell Eyeliner in Onyx. Not sure if this is full sized, but it looks like it — it’s the same size as most eyeliners I own. This is more like an eyeliner MARKER, giving you a liquid liner look.
BCBG Max Azaria Perfume — this is definitely NOT a full sized bottle, but it is a very large sample. If you’ve ever bought the purse sized perfumes from Sephora or Ulta, this is the same size as those. It’s most definitely bigger than any perfume sample I got from Birchbox, and will last quite a while.
Oceane Make Up Remover Pen — I don’t know much about this brand, but again, it appears to be a full sized product. It even comes with three extra pen tips. It says that it is used to “remove excess make up around eyes, lips, and corners that smear every time you apply make up”. This is fragrance free. I’ve not tried this product out yet, but I’m definitely interested!!
That’s it for the two boxes. I did get a sneak preview email for my next box, and it says there is a FULL SIZED Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara from Tarte in the box. I looked the mascara up on Sephora — it has excellent reviews and retails for $23!!
All in all, I’d say I’m very happy I made the switch and thrilled with Glossybox. The products are great size, excellent quality, and the box itself is pretty and beautifully packaged. It’s fun to get in the mail and open!!
I’d love to hear your thoughts!!
**I am not being compensated by Glossybox. They don’t know me, I am just sharing a service that I love!!
