This Week in Pop Culture ~ 10/17

PicMonkey CollageSo let’s talk about the news this week.

Nothing super major or dramatic, but there was a little bit of activity.

First let’s talk about Charlie Hunnam dropping out of Fifty Shades…

1381956737_charlie-hunnam-lgSo, looks like we’re going to be on the look out for a new Christian Grey…

Charlie Hunnam dropped out citing, “scheduling conflicts”.  Which is always a little curious..because wouldn’t you check your schedule BEFORE you accept?

Anyhow, there are multiple reports out there now about the fact that he was only set to make $125,000, which seems excessively low..I mean, in terms of movie salaries…especially one so high profile as this one…

Then there were talks of “creative differences”… ummm.

And finally there were reports that he was never fully onboard with the project to begin with, and that the media took the story and ran with it.

Either way, I just started watching Sons of Anarchy and all the melancholy thoughts I had about Charlie before, have now been put to rest.  Homeboy’s hot.  SO I have to say I’m a little disappointed that he won’t be Christian Grey…BUT I can’t wait to see who they cast next!

In splitsville this week…

1381875316_nina-dobrev-derek-hough-467I dislike this very very much.  Nina Dobrev, BFF of Julianne Hough and star of The Vampire Diaries, had been dating Derek Hough for a few weeks…but it appears that the distance was too much on the relationship.  So wish this would have worked, they are both adorable.

In more break-up talk…1381868361_martha-stewart-gwyneth-paltrow-lgMartha Stewart officially broke up with the blogging community AND Gwyneth Paltrow this week in her worldwide quest for ultimate superiority.  Her interview here talked about how bloggers aren’t experts..meaning they aren’t Editors at Vogue or something.  Here’s the interview if you want to watch.

Anyway, after she talked about bloggers, she talked about Gwyneth, and how she essentially wants to be Martha.  Eww.  Martha needs a reality check…I think Gwyneth is doing pretty fine being Gwyneth.

In fun news, this was confirmed…

f0bc2ba5113759d9a1fdcec26a312456The girls are back hosting the Golden Globes!  Woo Hoo!  Love these two!

And also, a big congrats to Ivanka Trump!

1381876322_ivanka-trump-467She welcomed a baby boy, Joseph Frederick Kuchner, this week.  Both mom and baby are reportedly doing great!

And also Lauren Conrad got engaged!

1381683698_lauren-conrad-engaged-william-tell_1Her fiance is William Tell and he is a lawyer of some sort.  Congrats to them! Love Lauren!

And then this just makes me happy…

In Bachelor news this week…

PicMonkey Collage2Ashlee Frazier from Sean’s season and Michael Garofola are dating.  Hello crazy.  Meant for each other or a dramatic break-up waiting to happen?  Yeah, this isn’t going to end well.

Also, it looks like Sean and Catherine have set a wedding date, to be televised, of course, on January 26, 2014.  You know I’ll be tuning in!

Annnnd apparently Elizabeth Kitt (Jake’s season and Bachelor Pad) and Ty Brown (Ali’s season) are engaged.  Good for them?

In theater’s this week…

12 Years a Slave.

In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life. ~ Movie Insider

And All is Lost

Academy Award winner Robert Redford stars in All Is Lost, an open-water thriller about one man’s battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea.

Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man (Robert Redford) wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. Despite his success in patching the breached hull, his mariner’s intuition, and a strength that belies his age, the man barely survives the tempest. ~ Movie Insider

    Sara says:

I am very happy Charlie dropped out of 50 Shades. I was shocked when he signed on, because he always keeps such a low profile. Plus, I just want him to be better than that!! But hey, if it brought some more viewers to Sons of Anarchy, it’s not all bad. That show is amazing and more people need to realize it!

Re: Nina and Derek – blech. That guy is way too feminine looking. I’m holding out hope that she and Ian can patch things up!
