So this week was a sad one in the week of pop culture.
As I am sure you all well know, Phillip Seymour Hoffman passed away this past week. His death was an effect of his heroin addiction.
The details surrounding the situation are, of course, alleged…as no one was with him at the time of death, But it is reported that he was found with a needle in his arm. It’s all so very sad. He was an actor of immeasurable talent, and will no doubt, be remembered as such.
He is survived by his his 3 children and long-time partner, Mimi O’Donnell.
Also, there is the huge scandal surrounding Woody Allen and his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.
I certainly have my own opinions about this whole story…and can say that the fact that he had an affair with his 17 year old other adopted daughter, Soon Yi isn’t helping his stance…
It’s all just so so sad. I could honestly write 4,000 words about this whole thing, but will leave it at that.
I’m not really sure what to say about this? What exactly is she “rehabbing” from? Hollywood rehabs must be different than normal-people rehabs. Not that I would know.. I mean..
In more fun news…
Also, I think it’s funny that the Red Hot Chili Peppers weren’t actually playing their guitars during the performance. Apparently their instruments weren’t plugged in…Man, that was some pretty convincing air guitar!
Also, the Winter Olympics start this week! You gonna watch?
My kids are totally excited about them!
This week at the movies…
The Lego Movie.
According to MovieInsider:
The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
Chris Pratt stars as the voice of Emmet. Will Ferrell stars as the voice of his primary adversary, President Business, an erudite, anal-retentive CEO who has a hard time balancing world domination with micro-managing his own life; while Liam Neeson voices the president’s powerful henchman, known as Bad Cop, who will stop at nothing to catch Emmet.
Starring as Emmet’s fellow travelers are Morgan Freeman, as Vitruvius, an old mystic; Elizabeth Banks, as tough-as-nails Lucy, who mistakes Emmet for the savior of the world and guides him on his quest; Will Arnett, as the mysterious Batman, a LEGO minifigure with whom Lucy shares a history; Nick Offerman as a craggy, swaggering pirate obsessed with revenge on President Business; and Alison Brie as a sweet, loveable member of the team, with a powerful secret.
And for the adults…The Monument’s Men..
According to MovieInsider:
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
Hope you have a great weekend and here’s hoping next week’s Pop Culture Post won’t be such a downer!
