Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. As someone with a dark and syndical personality, I have always enjoyed the celebration of people’s misery. Some classic movies have and will always capture the essence of Halloween. “Friday the 13th”, “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Halloween” comes to mind, but why? What do those movies have in common that today’s supposedly “scary” movies lack. For me the answer is obvious, the killing of a person was secondary to the overall plot of a movie.
Allow me to break down some recent examples. “Saw” it had perhaps one of the most amazing twist endings in recent movie history but it was not enough in my opinion to save an absolutely horrendous movie. The whole movie sucked right down to the terrible acting by actors totally out of their element or past their prime. Cary Ewes, really??? How can you take that guy seriously when he is obviously trying to overact his dramatic skills? Danny Glover’s career was over long before he received that script, and will forever be type-cast as an old detective way in over his head.
I was excited when Rob Zombie made “House of a 1000 Corpse’s” and was disappointed from start to finish, to the point by the end of the movie I regretted even watching. And that was just the beginning of my disappointments with todays so called horror films; death and snuff is the major plot to the story. If I wanted to see that stuff I would go rent “Faces of Death”. Have we as a society gotten to the point that the only way to please our primal sense of fear is to watch people die in cruel and on unusual ways.
In the 70’s “The Omen” caused a stir because it made people sick in and outside the theaters. The movie was truly terrifying for its time. And why, because the story of the overall movie was electrifying and well thought out. There was no elaborate build up to the death scenes. We all knew they were going to happen but when they did, pure cinema gold. They hit you like a ton of bricks. The best horror films leave the audience effected long after the movie was over. “Nightmare…” I still have trouble sleeping after I watch that movie and “Halloween” scared the crap out of babysitters everywhere.
That’s the essence of Halloween right there. To scare the masses long enough to seek comfort in family feel good holidays that is Thanksgiving and Christmas. Through recent talks with Dustin about writing a pilot episode for TV and the impending holiday has made me want to revisit the scary movie idea I have been working on for about 9yrs now. Just thinking about it again has revitalized my sprit and pushed my movie from the back burner to maybe something that can finally get down on paper and who knows on the big screen? Stay tuned for what is sure to be the breakout comedy show of any season it comes out on and maybe a movie that celebrates people in misery.

Hey Tonay I understand where you are coming from but I think your a little off. It was a compelling performance. Back to the topic at hand movies today are not about the horror or gore factor the movies today are all about trying to mind eff you and they try and go so deep and dig into your brain that all we really want is a lunitic with a burnt face or a mask killing teenagers after or while they are having sex. Thats the horror movies we dealy love and long to see back into the theater’s. Hacked up bloody monster movies, none of these movies about a group of people living in a town and they cannot go into the forrest at night, then they realize they are living surrounded by the real world, pretty gay if you ask me. Well it’s early and all I can think aabout is the ups & and downs my poor little man is going through last night, which is why I let you beat me in 2K9 anyway you all keep up the good work posting and keeping Dome and Dustin busy with this site. If the only 6 that are actually on here and posting stop then we would have to hear them verbally complain and deny being GAY!
